My last post was 8 months ago, so naturally I’ve had some people ask me, ‘Where the heck have you been?’ The short answer is, I’ve been writing.
During the summer of 2015 I took a travel writing class online. Through the course, I realized that I really wanted to write something else: a memoir about growing up in a closeted gay family. So in addition to my 2 travel blogs posts every week, I was also writing a book. And then last summer I reached the point where I simply didn’t have enough time and energy to focus on both at the same time, so I made a difficult decision. I put my travel blog on the back burner and focused on finishing my book.
Well, the book is done! I finished my first draft last August and since then I’ve had family and beta readers review, I’ve worked with a book coach and professional editor and have done a few major revisions. Then a few weeks ago I signed a publishing contract!!! My book will be out this summer.
So, where do I go from here and what does this mean for my travel blog?
I still love to travel and I still love writing about it. Now that my book is done, I’m ready to get back to my travel blog but I won’t be able to keep up with the same pace as before. I now have two websites: my travel blog and my author website. I’ve decided to keep them separate as the topics are very different and some people may only want to follow me on one or the other. This site will remain dedicated to travel. My author site will be dedicated to my book and LGBTQ issues in general. I will keep a blog on both. Because of this, I will transition to only posting here twice a month moving forward. This means that I will also be re-evaluating the types of posts I publish and may reduce things such as recipes and book reviews. If you have any feedback regarding what you’d like to see, please drop me a line in the comments or send me a note via the Contact page.
Finally, thank you for sticking with me over the past several months. I’m very excited about where things are going and my plan moving forward. And now that it’s starting to warm up, I’m really excited to get out and travel this spring. Look for some fun Idaho posts over the coming months!
